ABOOK ON MAGADISHU LAUNCHED IN NAIROBI KENYA.
Anew pictorial book on the war torn African city Magadisho had been launched and already at the leading bookshops around the Country.
The book titled Magadishu Then and Now was launched early this week at the Italian Institute of Cultural in Nairobi and attended by numerous book lovers among them Somalis living in Nairobi.
Over 5 police officers guarded the well attended function in which the book recorded good sale on the first day of release something which is not common in Nairobi when such complex book is being launched.
The photos were taken by Rasna Warah. and curated by Ismail Osman who under stand Somali Cultural background since the time of colonization by Italy
I have been told the book is a tribute to Africa most wounded city and the writer believes that it will make the World and International community to understand inside of Somali since those days of Arabs.
The book is very important because it traces Somali since 12 century when it was among the beautiful and among the most important city in Africa.
The book is the followup of photographic art exhibition held at the French Cultural Center in Nairobi early this year and attended by numerous people including the mayor of Magadishu among others
The book launch also marked the end of art exhibition by Somali painter Dega Abshir which had been going on at the Italian Cultural Center in Nairobi.
The youthful artist used the chance to talk about her work which reflects the rich Somali Cultural Heritage.
During the function numerous people appealed to UNESCO to declare some buildings in Magadishu as World heritage because the Country has among the oldest churches and mosque in Africa.
