TEACHERS UNION OFFICIALS SHOULD BE TEACHERS WHO UNDERSTAND HISTORY SINCE COLONIAL TIME
The stand of between teachers and government is shameful in the World of academia because it gives both parties bad image both locally and abroad.
Teachers being the Eye of the society they should show a good example instead of exposing there nakedness to both parents and students.
Unless both parties read history and the formation of teachers Union, teachers barbaric behavior can poison the minds of students
As i write majority of teachers and officials of there Union don't understand historical background of there union because some are not teachers, and that is why the teachers act should be changed so that Union officials should be retired teachers and professionals in the field
Teachers remember Moi for the motion he moved in the Legco in 1956 demanding that Africa teachers be allowed to form their own association
It was on the basis of this motion that Samuel Avany, Stephen Kioni, Iganaties Mkok and others were able to found the Kenya National Union of Teachers in 1957 and the effect its registration in December 1958.
The major objective of the Union for Africa teachers was to allow them tickle there problems eg training with dignity in order to be respected by the society because education was the only key for development
The Union was not formed to spear head for strikes as it is today and that is why during his leadership President Moi told the late Ambrose Adeya Odongo to keep off politics from teachers and School because he was not a teacher him-selves.
Adeya was for strike but Moi was for dignity within teachers professional because without diginity students cannot perform well.
What is happening now is teachers professionalism is unexceptionable during this 21 Century and there is need for the government to change the law which should guide teachers UNION because it is headed by people who are guided by politicians but not professionalism because some of them are not teachers
President Mwai Kibaki as a former lecture at Makerere University who was supposed to became the first Prof of Economics in Africa should take action on that
