Next week (25.11.14 @ 7pm): Inaugurati
on of 'SILENT CONVERSATI ON' an exhibition of paintings by LONGINOS NAGILA - Italian Institute of Culture
Inauguration on 25.11.14 at 7.00pm - soft drinks and bites will be served
SILENT CONVERSATION is a collection of portrait paintings of women trying to create a dialogue between the viewer and the ‘paintings’. The paintings, I feel, command attention and I consider them thought provoking.
Though not quite detailed, the portraits silently hold the attention of the viewer. It is said that eyes are the windows to the soul and the main outstanding feature of these portraits are the eyes - they are dark and look directly into the eyes of the viewer, this creates an emotional disturbance.
The exhibition interrogates the relationship between the artist, the art and the viewer, between what the society considers as beauty and ugly, sad and happy, stereotypes and judgment.
The exhibition features 25 portraits of different dimensions all produced in 2014.
My work embodies my interest in socio-economic situations in life, while at the same time trying to provoke thoughts that are driven towards the judgment of these situations. I consider my paintings as a platform for conversation from within an individual or between two or more people. My main subject is human, with a keen interest in their emotions as expressed through their eyes.
My sources of Inspiration are endless. I am deeply interested in children and women as I see them both as vessels and sources of life. I have a keen interest on world religions and arts. I take my time to look and try to understand the different visual languages employed by artists from different parts of the world.
The exhibition runs till 28th November 2014
Monday to Thursday from 10.00am to 6.00pm / Friday from 10.00am to 4.00pm
