The debate on quality of books in Kenya zooms with scholars coming with new ideas on how to improve it.
According
to University of Nairobi don Dr Tom Odhiambo majority of upcoming
writers don't read other writers books, while some of them fear
criticism which is easy way of learning
Odhiambo noted that the only way upcoming writers can improve is
to read other writers books in order to avoid producing dead stocks
which sellers are no fearing to stock.
Recently University of
Nairobi don Prof Chris Wanjala published apiece on local languages and
the quality of books in the Country in which he told writers to ether
choose English or mother tongue like Prof Ngugi wa Thiong who writer in
Kikuyu but teach in English
Even though Prof Wanjala is respect Scholar he should vividly
understand that books in local languages are deep in culture and had
wide readers than English if promoted well by being translated.
The good example of play in An Enemy of the people by Dr Henrik Ibsen
who wrote the book in Norwegian language in 1882 under the title
En folkfiende, since then the play had been translated into numerous
languages and zooms to elicit wide acclaim all over the World
Another play is the Koingis Harvest by Prof Wole Soyinka published in 1967 and is still popular among theater goers of our time
Currently those two plays are classic not only that they reflects
what is happening in the World especially in Africa among the ruling
class
Just read Kongis Harvest and An Enemy of the people you
just reflects what is happening in Kenya between TNA politicians and
Cord and dont forgot the role of press and political brokers who are
cashing out of that while press is spreading propaganda while the common
man suffers.
