The annual International women day was marked
around the World in style with line up of events ranging from music and
poems on the line up.
In Nairobi the major events was at the
French Cultural Center which was jointly staged by Akili Dada, Women
Girl lead global and Alliance Francaise de Nairobi.
The events on the line up included debate, poems reading photographic
exhibition films among other which were work of creativity.
This
years events started with the screening of the late Prof Wangari Maathai
film titled Taking Roots, The version of Wangari Maathai by Lisa Merton
which attracted numerous film lovers who filled Wangari Mathaai Hall to
capacity.
The major objective of showing Wangari film on the opening day was to
motivate young gilrs and women on the eve of International Women day in
order to understand the achievements of women in the modern society not
only in Kenya but around the World
Speaking during the official opening of the events Akili Dada founder
executive Wanjiru Kamau appealed to young women to zooms with the
version mooted by the late Nobel Prize wiinner Prof Wangari Maathai
adding that her achievement cannot be forgoten in a short awhile
Wangari achievement motivated many people not only in Kenya but around
the World after receiving one of the highest award in the World because
she was the first women in East Africa to have PHD
At the same time
Wanjiru promised that her organizational will zoom to work with the
upcoming Kenyans talents in or field of life because majority of the
cannot promote them selves to both local and internal arena.
The gathering was also addressed by representative from Green Belt
movement founded by the late Wangari Mathai and also representatives
from French Cultural Center,
