BOOK ON PEACE BUILDING AND MANAGEMENT LAUNCHED IN NAIROBI
ILAHAKA FRANCIS
German envoy to Kenya Margit Hellwing had appealed to Kenyans to elect political leaders who stand for development and peace.
She pointed out that German, as much as the European Union has been helping to build a peaceful Kenya by supporting the judicial process of reconciliation following the last elections as the implementation of the constitution.
The EU and its member state have been supporting Kenyans ability to hold free, fair and transparent elections this time around.
Free and fair elections will create the stable and secure environment necessary to continue to attract foreign investment to fuel Kenyans growth and create jobs, especially for the youth.
Election related violence risks harming the economy and peoples live hoods as investors business and tourists will stay away from the Country
German supports any effort to put and end to impunity and to enforce the rule of law in Kenya, regardless who will be elected President continued cooperation with the international criminal court is of vital importance to create accountability to political violence and to build a stable Kenya.
Like EU the European Union Member state German is as party to the Rome Statute and bound by its legal obligations as much as Kenya is.
It is for the Kenyan people to elect their leaders, German does not support and candidate for any office, we trust the Kenyan people to make wise decisions and elect responsible leaders.
Promote peace, because peace begins with Kenyans adding that this week historical Presidential Debate which Kenyans followed on TV and radio stations across the Country is example of change in the Country.
The debate set the tone for a peaceful campaign and a contest of ideas, it also raised the issue of justice for the victims and the right to a fair trial for alleged perpetrators of post election violence.
She pointed out that peace and justice are interlinked, Without peace there will be no justice, and without justice, peace will not be sustainable.
The envoy was speaking during the official launching of abook titled Peace Building and Conflict Management at German Cultural Center in Nairobi.
The book is dedicated to all people in Kenya who strive for peace democracy and the law of law and is the products of Kenyatta University students and German University students
