1974
Leopards then Abaluhya football club most
memorable match was played – Addis Ababa Ethiopia in May 1974
During the match the police were forced to open
fire in order to score funny.
The Kenyan party was apprehensive about the trip
to Ethiopia.
Although Abaluhya led Asmara 2-0 from the first
feeling that something could go wrong.
According to report in the Daily nation of May 6,
1974 two goals seemed adequate security to win the game.
They were more worried about this kind of
security. There were some relief when the game was switched from Asmora’s home
ground to the Haile Selassie National Stadium, where security was likely to be
better.
Abaluhya coach Dan Anyazwa remembered the
Ethiopian- Kenya game in 1970 when as a member of the Kenya team, he heard seek running team mate’s
hunt in the crowd rumpus which caused the games
abandonment after 55 minute, old timers recalled the 1963.
