African scientist wants strong working relationship with politicians in order to improve food production in the region
They
said that since majority of politicians are policy makers they
should be invited during international conference in order to
give there views
Lead by National Council for Science and Technology C.EO Prof
Shaukat Abdulazak were speaking during the just ended
International Conference on Integrated Soil Fertility and
management in Africa at Safari Park in Nairobi.
The conference brought together Scientist, University lectures
and academia from Africa and other parts of the World to
discus new farming technology
They said since politicians are
policy makers it is difficult to bring them to round
tables during conference forcing scientist to speak to them
selves because policies are never implemented.
While calling on African farmers to adapt modern farming they
also appealed to academia to contact vivid research because
majority of farmers luck knowledge especially on how to uses
fertilizer and kids of seeds
At the same time urged academia to make sure that there
research are published and made available to farmers and
students in the region because there is shortage of reading
materials.
Majority of academia complained that few students
are not taking agriculture subject seriously because it takes
long period and ones they are through there is no improvement
for them
Prof Abdulazak also appealed to Kenyans to start growing other
food crops instead of depending on maize. adding that in Kenya
shortage of food means that shortage of maize.
He added
that every farmer wants to grow maize forcing others to plant
maize in areas which are not suitable for maize and appealed to
government to zone areas which are suitable
At same time appealed to media house to use some program to educate farmers on modern farming.
